Joining Microsoft Imagine Cup Malaysia 2016

Microsoft Imagine Cup is a worldwide student technology competition. Every year, students from all over the world compete in their country level, then again at regional level to qualify for the final that normally held at US. As part of our commitment to give back to the developer community, Softinn took part as one of the sponsors in Malaysia Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016.

The student submissions were divided into three categories

• Games
• Innovation
• World Citizenship

The event took part in the Unesco World Heritage City – Malacca on 12.Apr to 14.Apr, three winners were selected in each categories and one winner is crown as the overall champion that will represent Malaysia in the regional level. Below is the overall champion and the winners of each categories

1st – BAWA – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus
2nd – GECT – Universiti Malaysia Sarawak
3rd – DIAGMENTIA – Monash University Malaysia

 

 

INNOVABOARD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia took home the overall champion. They built a device – round skateboard that fitted with gyro sensor (named Innovaboard, not sure if I got it right). The team developed the below to showcase how Innovaboard can be used

• In Games – they have built some interesting games that the player interact with the board. Watch the video below at 7:50. One of the judges – Mike (from 1337 Accelerator) quote them as “wii fit board on steroids“.
• Balacing Tool – essentially a tool to test how good we are in balancing our body. The best part is their tool simplify the result in scores that shows area of improvements.

On top of being the official accommodation partner for the event, Softinn sponsored RM 200 cash prize for the top winners, 10% discount code for their next bookings on LetsGoHoliday.my. Below are some of the photos of the event that we took.

Softinn also joined them in visiting an old folks home on 14.Apr.
